FoeFace is a new web-based app that invites you to join a group of people who all think differently from each other about topics that matter - to discover unlike minds. The app comes in response to the rising dangers to our individual and civic well being from social media platforms whose algorithms are driving us further into ‘bubbles’ or echo-chambers - where the only people we encounter and converse with are those who think the same as us.
FoeFace is for people who want to break out of these echo chambers and engage with people who are different from them. It’s for people who want to move beyond hateful and aggressive speech and learn how to disagree well.
The experience of FoeFace is different from other apps:
If you feel uncomfortable when others disagree with you - that discomfort is not a trigger to disconnect, but a sign that you’re exactly where you want to be: breaking out of your cosy echo chamber and getting better at disagreeing well.
If you feel disinterested in one of the conversation topics - that disinterest is not a trigger to disengage but a sign that you’re exactly where you want to be: learning how to understand what it is that makes other people so interested in it.
If you feel either too smart or not smart enough for your group - that feeling is not a trigger to pull out but a sign that you’re exactly where you want to be: learning how to relate to more than just those who are exactly like you. Who knows - your group might include a rocket scientist and someone with a learning disability and that would be a good thing!
Finally, if the pace of FoeFace feels either faster or slower than what you are used to - that feeling is not a trigger to step out of the rhythm - It is a sign that you are learning to move at a ‘sacred pace’: one that is considerate of other people’s time and helps your group to move together.
If this is for you - register at FoeFace and fill in the questionnaire about your thoughts, values and beliefs on a range of topics. This will help us to place you in a conversational group made up of about 3-5 other people, some of whom will think very differently to you, but all of whom - like you - want to disagree well.
Discover unlike minds and learn how to disagree well.
